New tab for every email

Why is my email automatically opening up in a new tab, when I have settings telling it to just let me know a new mail is in (via sound)? I see no setting to allow it to open on its own or stop it from doing this.
Also, why did it not remember my password or allow me to change it once a mail arrived?
WMN Options
In WMN Options, Accounts tab... for each account, there is a checkbox for "Open Automatically" on the left panel.
